The Department of Military and Veterans Programs (MVP) at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) provides guidance and coordination of student services and support for student veterans, dependents, and active duty military personnel. This position will work under the direction of the Director of Military and Veteran Programs and will assist all sections of Military and Veteran Programs. The position will serve to coordinate and promote military and veteran affiliated student support services that foster military and veteran student success in degree attainment, or transfer to four-year academic intuitions. 

The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed associate’s degree with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and promoting events or other group activities.  

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Project Management certification or Project Management experience developing activities and events to support military and veteran student transition to higher education.
  • Experience in student development and advising techniques.
  • Experience collecting student data, reporting, record keeping, assessments and confidentiality.
  • Veteran or military affiliated (i.e. Family member, US Reserve or National Guard member).
  • Spanish language ability to read, write, and speak fluently.

Essential Functions 

  • Design, implement, and maintain military or veteran support opportunities and events.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Student Veteran Organization as well as other Student Experience activities within the college.
  • Serve as the liaison to designated community organizations that can provide key and critical support to PPSC’s military and veteran affiliated students.
  • Work with the department director to improve the first-year experience for incoming student veterans, military members, and families.
  • Develop and coordinate mentoring, scholarship, and barrier-reducing programs and guide cohorts of military and veteran students in academic planning and transition planning.
  • Develop internal and external communication materials for events and outreach.
  • Connect PPSC military and veteran affiliated students to the peer-to-peer support programs that may be available.
  • Develop programming and workshops in coordination with other service providers for military to civilian transition, job readiness and transition to the workforce skills.
  • Implement education and marketing materials as appropriate for department programming focused on military and veteran affiliated students.
  • Collect enrollment, retention, services usage, and other data as requested by the director, perform assessment and analysis of data to provide recommendations for programming; provide to the Director and other department leaders.
  • Partner with college departments and resources to promote student success through academic support services.
  • Coordinate PPSC faculty and staff training programs for military and veteran services in conjunction with the Director.
  • Provide oversight of the department website and coordinate website updates as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    department.
  • Works day, evenings, and weekends as needed.
