The Student Experience Support Specialist is the first point of contact for PPSC students who are looking for engagement, involvement, and leadership opportunities on campus with the goal of connecting students with the appropriate campus and community resources. The Specialist provides administrative, supervisory, and referral support for all PPSC campuses that houses any Student Experience & Student Leadership area. Administrative support includes general clerical/administrative office duties. This individual should possess a high level of knowledge of administrative processes and systems, the capacity to communicate with multiple stakeholders, coordinate multiple projects, and the ability to exercise time management and prioritization. Individuals must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication. The Specialist serves as an integral role in promoting holistic student success, engagement, and retention as well as diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Reports to: Director of Student Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed associate degree with two years of experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment; must demonstrate cultural humility.
  • Experience with computer and software applications relating to office management, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Leadership, Sociology, Multicultural Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, or closely related field.
  • Two years of professional experience working in a higher education setting with traditional and non-traditional college students.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking, facilitating workshops, or small group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, data collection, and assessment.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish. 
  • Knowledge of campus and community referral resources.

Essential Functions 

  • Manage student case load in accordance with grant parameters, provide student access to campus and community
  • resources, maintain positive relationships with community agencies and partners, meet with students to identify their
  • needs and to connect them with the appropriate campus and community resources, follow-up with students, support, and
  • provide assistance as needed. Promote Single Stop to the campus community (e.g., workshops, class presentations,
  • meetings, etc.).
  • Perform data collection, tracking, reporting, retention data on students who utilize Single Stop.
  • Serve as a resource and connector for students who need personal assistance as referred by faculty, student affairs, and others.
  • Build awareness of the Single Stop platform and importantly, provide hands-on support for students to access the programs for which they qualify.
  • Assist with educational program development/professional development for faculty and staff around Single Stop, public benefits, food assistance programs, and how participation in these programs can make our students more successful in the classroom.
  • Support or administer campus and community-based food programs for qualified students.
  • Provide robust and user-friendly information to students- regarding all resources.
  • Serve on the college’s behavioral intervention team (BIT) to provide follow-up to students where appropriate.
  • Develop and expand relationships within the community, building strong relationships with community resources for help with the homelessness, emergency rent assistance, emergency utility assistance, food assistance, physical and mental health care professionals, childcare, and any community organizations capable of assisting our students with life’s challenges.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Experience working effectively as a member of a team; good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to travel between campuses and work a flexible schedule as needed for student/department support.
