Purpose Statement

The Access Coordinator serves as a senior-level specialist responsible for ensuring equitable access within the academic environment. In addition to determining reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with diverse disabilities, this role leads the development of institutional training materials and serves as the primary liaison for faculty communications regarding complex accessibility issues. The Access Coordinator acts as a subject matter expert in disability law (ADA/504) and helps guide the Disability Specialist team in standardizing service delivery.

Anticipated start date July 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Two years of professional level experience working with individual with disabilities in an academic setting supporting or implementing student accommodations.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, Student Affairs or related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in education implementing student accommodations.
  • Two or more years of experience using standard desktop computer application software and operating systems (i.e.,Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).

Essential Functions 

 Advanced Faculty Communication & Advocacy

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty regarding complex or disputed accommodations; lead "Interactive Process" meetings between students and academic departments to find creative access solutions.
  • Partner with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) to implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles across the curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized SOP for Disability Specialist role.

Training Material Development

  • Design, create, and deliver comprehensive training materials (digital, print, and video) for faculty and staff on disability awareness, inclusive pedagogy, and assistive technology integration.
  • Conduct specialized workshops for academic divisions on the impact of specific disabilities (e.g., neurological, psychiatric, and learning disorders) on the classroom environment.
  • Curate an online repository of accessibility guides for the campus community.

Eligibility & Accommodation Management (Core Duties)

  • Conduct initial and subsequent interactive conversations with students to review medical/psychological documentation.
  • Evaluate and determine eligibility for services based on ADA, and Section 504 regulations.
  • Assess student needs for assistive technology and coordinate with the Accessibility Support Specialist for specialized training.
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of student accommodation plans.

Compliance & Leadership Support

  • Monitor and ensure ongoing institutional compliance with local, state, and federal accessibility regulations.
  • Support the Director/Assistant Director in training new Disability Specialists and hourly staff on departmental procedures and documentation standards.
  • Participate in program review, data collection for retention efforts, and cross-departmental policy development.

  • Ability to mentor team members and provide clear direction to faculty on accommodation logistics.
  • Advanced skills in navigating high-stakes conversations between students, parents, and academic leadership.
