Pikes Peak State College is seeking a full-time TRIO Program Coordinator to provide academic advising and support to TRIO students while overseeing day-to-day program operations, retention initiatives, and workshops. This grant-funded position also supervises student employees and ensures smooth program delivery and compliance with federal requirements.
Reports to: Project Director of TRIO Student Support Services.
This is a grant-funded position. Multi-year grants are funded based on the fiscal years for the full grant period. However, there is no guarantee that funding is available year after year from the awarding agencies. Employment with the college after each grant-funded period is not assured.
Grant-funded positions cannot guarantee a payout of leave benefits. Grant-funded employees are encouraged to work with their supervisor to schedule and utilize annual leave benefits during each grant fiscal year.
Grant-funded positions may be eligible for annual increases contingent upon awarded yearly grant budgets and a satisfactory performance evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience in academic advising, student coaching, counseling, or related support role.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and virtual/social media communication tools.
- Experience in student support roles with measurable accountability.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed master’s degree in education, Counseling, Social Sciences, Social Work, Business, Marketing, or related field.
- One or more years of experience advising or mentoring students in an educational or community-based setting.
- Experience with Student Information Systems, Customer Relations Management Systems, or program tracking software.
- Knowledge of federal or state grant-funded programs and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of financial aid and FERPA regulations.
- Experience with data tracking, reporting, and case management in a digital environment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.

Essential Functions
Program Coordination and Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and implement student retention events, workshops, and program initiatives.
- Provide continuity of assigned day-to-day program operations during the Director’s absence, following established procedures and guidance.
- Track and manage student engagement, data and outcomes, and program success to support federal reporting and internal evaluation.
- Assist in preparing federal grant reports and ensure compliance with all program regulations.
- Communicate with students, faculty, staff, and community partners regarding program activities.
- Track participant academic performance and success and assist with coordination of communications between TRIO, faculty, and other college departments.
- Actively assist students in persisting, graduating, and transferring to four-year institutions while ensuring smooth program operations.
- In coordination with the Project Specialist and under the direction of the Director, supervise student employees, including work-study students, peer mentors, and tutors, assigning duties and monitoring performance.
- Develop schedules and assign work duties to support program operations.
- Ensure student employee and tutor tasks align with program objectives and contribute to smooth program delivery.
- Contribute to college committees, working groups, and department initiatives as assigned.
Academic Advising & Student Support
- Provide TRIO program guidance and processes for students in the program.
- Ensure advising activities align with TRIO SSS objectives and allowable services.
- Provide proactive academic advising and coaching to a caseload of TRIO participants.
- Support students with goal setting, course selection, degree planning, and transfer processes.
- Assist TRIO participants with applying and transferring to four-year colleges or universities.
- Monitor academic progress using college advising software to ensure student success.
- Maintain accurate documentation of advising activities, outreach efforts, and student outcomes.
- Coordinate referrals to tutoring and other support services for student success.
- Assist students with FAFSA, COF, registration, and residency processes.
- Proactively reach out to students at risk of not persisting or graduating.
- Work with TRIO staff to connect advising activities to program operations and student retention efforts.

- Travel between campuses and work a flexible schedule as needed to support the program.
