Job Description:

Part-time instructor positions (as defined by State Board Policy, BP 3-10) exist to create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that empowers students to be successful. Part-time instructors work under the direction of their respective Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Division Dean. 

Pikes Peak State College maintains a pool of qualified part-time instructors. Part-time instructors will be selected to support departmental requirements. Part-time instructors may be employed to teach courses, conduct presentations or other service activities when current instructors and faculty are not available.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Associate’s degree in a health-related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution OR three years of documented military training in sterile processing.
  • Current certification as a Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Inc. OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) issued by The Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).
  • Three years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a surgical technologist or Central Sterile Processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and software platforms quickly.
  • Microsoft 365 Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide support for basic technical issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate or articulate a commitment to serving underrepresented populations or populations affected by societal inequities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g. AAMI, CDC, OSHA).
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree or higher in a health-related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist credentialed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • One or more years of teaching experience, preferably at the community college level.
  • Relates coursework to real life experiences.
  • Maintains a positive and empathetic demeanor towards students.

Pikes Peak State College participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) contribution rates.

  • Participate in all aspects of department and/or college level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career/technical courses and programs as required.
  • Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time.
  • Submits required reports and documents.
  • Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Uses communication techniques that foster collegiality when problem solving.
  • Works to resolve conflicts in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • Contributes to the promotion of an excellent educational climate within the college as a whole, as well as within the division and department.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Collaborating with the program director and other faculty members to develop a comprehensive and up-to-date curriculum in line with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Designing detailed course syllabi, incorporating practical training components and innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Creating engaging and informative lecture materials, presentations, and multimedia resources to foster an effective learning environment.
  • Integrating real-world case studies and examples to enhance students' understanding and application of sterile processing concepts.
  • Assisting in planning the sterile processing lab's layout and configuration to ensure a conducive learning environment for hands-on training.
  • Identifying and acquiring necessary equipment and supplies, ensuring they meet industry standards.
  • Delivering engaging lectures covering theoretical aspects of sterile processing.
  • Leading practical lab sessions to provide students with hands-on experience in sterilization techniques and equipment operation.
  • Developing various assessment methods, including quizzes, exams, and practical evaluations, to measure students' progress effectively.
  • Providing timely feedback and support to students to enhance their academic growth.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to teaching.
  • Uses appropriate and various teaching strategies.
  • Uses flexible approaches in teaching for learning.
  • Acknowledges differences in learning styles and motivation
  • Encourages students to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
