The Coordinator of Accommodative Testing serves as a pivotal position ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities. This role is dedicated to the implementation, and management of testing accommodations that support the principles of inclusivity, integrity, and fairness. By collaborating with faculty, staff, and students, the coordinator ensures that all testing environments and practices comply with institutional policies and legal requirements, while fostering an equitable and inclusive educational experience by facilitating a supportive academic environment that enables all students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, special education, counseling, psychology, social work, human services, computer science, rehabilitation technology, or closely related field.
  • One or more years of professional level experience effectively working with individuals with disabilities.
  • One or more years demonstrated experience in student assessment.
  • One or more years of experience using standard desktop computer application software and operating systems (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed master's degree in math, education, special education, counseling, psychology, vocational rehabilitation, social work, human services, computer information systems, computer science, rehabilitation technology, or another closely related field.
  • Two or more years of documented experience administering accommodative tests for students with disabilities.
  • One or more years coordinating the operations of a department to include supervision and training of staff.
  • Demonstrated experience applying disability and privacy laws for post-secondary or secondary students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology.
  • Ability to speak in English and Spanish.

Essential Functions 

Coordination of Accommodative Testing Operations

  • Implement approved testing accommodations for students with disabilities through scheduling and seeking out facilities and alternative settings for student testing.
  • Administer, proctor, and/or read/scribe course or placement tests with or without assistive technology.
  • Maintain security, confidentiality, and accuracy of tests, records, scoring procedures, data collection and secure, equitable, accessible, and professional testing environments.
  • Collect and maintain quantitative and qualitative data to generate reports and analysis of the data in relation to program development and student needs, retention, and success.
  • Facilitate the implementation of approved accommodations and resolve concerns associated with the administration of accommodative testing by establishing and maintaining communication among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student staff or administrative staff who will be working directly with our accommodative testing specialist.

Departmental Collaboration

  • Consult with the director, campus and community resources to identify and address accessibility issues regarding procedures and ADA/Section 504 accessibility compliance issues.
  • Participate in program reviews and the development of procedural guidelines and in-service training.
  • Assist with scheduling student appointments, creating alternate format materials, placing accommodative furniture, and assistive technology.

  • Familiarity with current accessibility and confidentiality regulations.
  • Current knowledge of the advancement of assistive technology.
  • Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide training and information to students/faculty/staff/community partners.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel between campuses as needed and work variable schedules based on departmental needs.
