Job Description

The Simulation Lab Assistant is responsible for facilitating the utilization of Simulation Lab resources through preparing, implementing, and taking down simulation experiences. The lab assistant will perform other related functions to support the Health Sciences Division as assigned. This position may require travel between campuses.

This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completed High School Diploma or completed GED.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of experience working in a simulation center or lab with high/low fidelity mannequins.
  • Experience with simulation software including SimCapture, Laerdal or CAE products and experience with audio-visual equipment.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.

The following will substitute for simulation center or lab experience: two or more years of professional experience or certification in a health care related field as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed practical Nurse (LPN), Medical Assistant (MA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Surgical Technologist, and/or information technology fields.

Duties & Responsibilities

Simulation Support

  • Assist faculty with preparing, implementing, and taking down simulation experiences.
  • Operate High and Low fidelity mannequins during simulation experiences.
  • Function as a Standardized patient as needed.
  • Prepare and place all moulage as indicated.
  • Set up equipment and supplies for classroom demonstrations, labs, and skill stations as requested by faculty.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the Simulation Center, labs, and supply rooms.
  • Clean, calibrate and trouble shoot equipment errors in the skills and simulation center.
  • Assist in problem solving and troubleshooting as needs arise.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

  • Basic knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Computer literacy to the level of at least word-processing, spreadsheets and databases, data collection and health management systems.
  • Commitment to utilizing simulation methodology in learning and its ability to transform healthcare education.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to think logically and follow directions.
  • Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel independently and as a team member in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.
