The Director is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing programs appropriate to community needs and designated regulatory bodies. The Director is responsible for the overall administration, supervision, evaluation, and coordination of the Nursing Programs: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program (RN-BSN), the Nursing AAS (RN), AAS Practical Nurse to RN, Practical Nurse Certificate (LPN), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/NUA). This includes administrative responsibility related to the nursing department budget preparation and evaluation, recruitment and evaluation of nursing faculty and instructors, curriculum development, schedule planning, student recruitment, formulation of policy and procedure, and evaluation of program effectiveness.

Reports to: Executive Dean of Health Sciences

Essential Functions

  • Supervise a program of curricula development and evaluation for the nursing programs which meet State and national accreditation guidelines.
  • Administration of nursing program budget.
  • Supervise, evaluate, recruit, and make hiring recommendations for faculty and part-time instructors.
  • Active supervision of student issues, academic progression decisions, and cohort course registration.
  • Assign workload for faculty each semester.
  • Supervise assignment of part-time/instructor workloads to meet nursing program needs.
  • Lead, delegate, and evaluate the orientation process for faculty and instructors.
  • Determine the need for additional faculty release time for administrative duties.
  • Maintain an advisory board for the nursing program by selecting qualified candidates, organization of meetings, and sharing appropriate data with a minimum of two meetings per year.
  • Monitor nursing program enrollments against targeted growth. 
  • Provide academic leadership to each nursing program in collaboration with the coordinator of each nursing program (RN-BSN, RN, LPN, CNA).
  • Serve on college committees as needed.
  • Support PPSC grant-writing activities as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the Nursing Education Program's responsiveness to community and employer needs.
  • Regularly participate in student recruitment.
  • Regularly maintain active visibility with the Pikes Peak workforce by attending meetings/assigned functions.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled nursing department meetings.
  • Supervise non-nursing staff assigned to nursing programs.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator or Department Chair in course syllabi, textbook selection, and additional student resources to promote learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator or Department Chair in the process of determining appropriate faculty staffing patterns.
  • Maintain the process for reviewing or updating the student handbook annually.
  • Maintain, evaluate, and update the process for transfer students to the nursing program.
  • Implement the current process for admission of nursing students on designated times per year in compliance with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Coordinators in selecting and evaluating facilities for clinical rotations/experiences.
  • Meet with hospital representatives annually to arrange clinical sites.
  • Attend/participate in quarterly State Board of Nursing meetings.
  • Responsible for compliance with all State Board of Nursing Education Program requirements.
  • Attend/participate in Colorado Community College System (CCCS) Nursing Directors discipline meetings.
  • Ongoing assessment and evaluation of CCCS core curriculum processes for all nursing programs.
  • Plan and implement a nursing program calendar of courses each semester per dates selected by the school. 
  • Collaborate with Health Sciences Advising Team in assessing and evaluating the advising process for students.
  • Prepare all required surveys and annual reports for local, State, and national accrediting organizations.
  • Assess and evaluate strategies for innovative teaching within the nursing simulation laboratory as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree in nursing from a Nursing Education Program with national nursing accreditation.
  • Active unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado.
  • Two years of full-time clinical experience as a practicing registered nurse.
  • Two years of full-time teaching experience in an approved nursing education program, experience shall be at or above the level of the program the individual will be directing.
  • Documented knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation.
  • Demonstrated administrative and nursing supervisory experience.
  • Obtain Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) within two years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
  • Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of accreditation/re-accreditation process for nursing programs.
  • Two years of experience supervising and evaluating staff and faculty.
