Position is responsible for front desk operations and support staff supervision for the Learning Commons at Pikes Peak State College. This position is the primary point of contact for patrons (students, faculty, staff, community members). This position ensures that patrons are served with respectful, inclusive, and knowledgeable support and exemplary customer service. The Library and Learning Commons Lead supervises and trains temp-hourly and student staff, directly supports circulation and reserve collection processes, and manages day-to-day operations for the Learning Commons. Additional responsibilities include assisting Tutoring Services, other library staff, and Promise Programs. This position is responsible for maintaining supplies and displays, monitoring public areas, and working collaboratively with other Learning Commons and college departments to support student success.

Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Two years of professional level experience in library services, academic advising, social services, secondary or post-secondary student success coaching, teaching or student services.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Two years of professional experience working in a higher education library or learning commons setting with college students.
- Demonstrated experience in public speaking, teaching, facilitating workshops, or small group facilitation.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish

Essential Functions
- Provides and models professional behavior through respectful and inclusive customer service that promotes a respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment in the learning commons.
- Monitors the learning commons/library public spces including opening/closing areas.
- Demonstrate knowledgeable service for college departments and locations, tutoring services, circulation processes and tasks, library materials and services.
- Problem-solve and diffuse student staff and customer service issues & difficult situations with a professional demeanor.
- Ensures front desk staff follow learning commons guidance and procedures.
- Works cooperatively with tutoring department staff, learning commons leadership, library staff, and college personnel.
- Assists with bookings for the tutoring department and helps to check students in for upcoming tutoring appointments.
- Assists with bookings for the Promise Program and assists with check-ins and updates for the promise staff.
- Designs shelving displays and reading material for the displays found in each location.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the front desk.
- Supply tracking and inventory for each location to operate efficiently and smoothly.
- Use designated software programs to create study room reservations and tutoring requests.
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates front desk student staff on customer service expectations, circulation procedures, learning commons guidelines and procedures, and tasks; creates schedules and assigns projects for student staff.
- Addresses staff performance while adhering to policies and disciplinary procedures when necessary.
- Solves staff issues affecting the operations and standards.
- Collects and submits student staff timesheets.
- Assists with event operations as needed within the library.
- Assists with Student ID machines as needed, assists with providing IDs in the learning commons.
Catalog and Collection Duties
- Oversees circulation department guidelines and procedures at the Centennial Campus (CC) learning commons.
- Accesses catalog software to check in/out all materials, renewals, places holds, creates patron accounts, and ensures that patron records are correct.
- Oversee the CC library overdue and missing or lost processes, including accurate recordkeeping, mailing or emailing notices to patrons weekly, and timely submissions to the college financial office.
- Ensures that periodical collection processes are completed daily, submits claims, and collects usage statistics.
- Overseas established procedures for overseeing the Reserves collection.
- Participates in reviews of learning commons guidelines and procedures; updates CC learning commons staff with official changes to guidelines and procedures.
- Collaborate with circulation department staff to review and update department procedures.
- Shelves returned materials and maintains the organization of the reserve collection and Library of Congress Classification system of the circulating and reference collections.
- Able to professionally communicate orally and in written form.
- Builds student worker daily operations and ensures tasks are completed punctually and correctly.
- Oversees headcount operations for library data collection.

- Experience developing traditional or web-based programming and materials for workshops, services, and special events.
- Excellent computer skills working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to prepare effective written communications utilizing correct grammar and spelling.
- Skills in organization and accurate recordkeeping with strict attention to detail and student privacy issues.
- Ability to professionally and tactfully interact, communicate, establish rapport and work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, and community members and organizations.
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Position requires energetic, flexible team members willing to work occasional evenings and Saturdays to accommodate programming needs, and travel to multiple campuses and off campus locations.
