The Specialist is responsible for updating, maintaining, and programming simulation equipment at the Interdisciplinary Simulation Center at Pikes Peak State College. The Specialist will work collaboratively with the PPSC IT Department to ensure SimCapture and Learning Space software is functioning at the CHES building and Delta Dental Center building. They will have an expanded knowledge of laboratory and simulation resources, including new technologies, computer software and hardware, and simulators. Reports any updates, additions, or changes in the Simulation Center software to the Health Sciences Simulation Operations Coordinator, or Executive Dean of Health Sciences.
Additionally, this role serves as a resource for students and faculty during simulation training experiences by answering routine questions related to learning resources and equipment use.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position OR four years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
- Two years of operational experience in healthcare simulation services, technologies, and software applications such as Laerdal LLEAP software.
- Currently possess, or are able to obtain, Certified Healthcare Simulation Operator Specialist (CHSOS) Certification within 24 months of hire as a condition of employment.
- Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting equipment, assembling simulation equipment, and providing viable solutions for equipment or supply problems.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical simulation lab.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+ and/or ITIL v3.
- Experience supporting MacOS and Windows OS.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of simulation equipment.
- Recent operational experience in healthcare simulation services, technologies, and software applications such as Laerdal LLEAP software.
- Experience with Laerdal, Elevate, and Gaumard high and low-fidelity manikins.
- Possession of a Society of Simulation Certified Health Care Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

Essential Functions
- Operate and maintain high and low-fidelity manikins, virtual reality equipment, skill trainers, and simulated medical equipment (e.g., IV arms) to support immersive learning experiences.
- Direct and oversee audiovisual system operations within the simulation center to ensure smooth execution of all scheduled simulations.
- Serve as a resource for students and faculty by responding to routine inquiries related to learning technologies, equipment uses, and simulation logistics.
- Support faculty in the implementation and use of simulation equipment in classroom and laboratory settings.
- Communicate updates on repair progress, equipment changes, and technology outages with the simulation team and relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate, coordinate and support PPSC IT network infrastructure needs within the simulation center, including WAN, LAN, WiFi, VPN, and basic cybersecurity protocols.
- Manage remote access implementation and troubleshooting for simulation platforms and related systems.
- Monitor simulation-related emergencies and facilitate immediate communication through MS Teams and emergency response systems.
- Develop and maintain systems and procedures to capture simulation data, analyze trends, and support accreditation and program outcomes.
- Maintain thorough documentation of simulation equipment and procedures, including maintenance logs and technical specifications.
- Create user guides and tutorials to promote effective and proper use of simulation technologies.
- Remain current with advancements in simulation technology, educational software, hardware systems, and instructional tools.
- Effectively managing multiple priorities and responsibilities, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and student learning outcomes.

- Provide hands-on technical support to the simulation team (in-person, over-the-phone or remotely) for computing and AV needs in simulation environments, including Microsoft and Apple platforms, cloud services, and on-premises systems.
- Document, troubleshoot, resolve, or escalate requests/issues.
- Skills in maintaining PCs and Macs, as well as specialized simulation equipment.
- Knowledge of PC principles, operations, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with Windows, Mac, Chrome, Android, and iOS operating systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and 365 applications.
- Excellent professional interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to express thoughts, ideas, and suggestions through verbal, written, and electronic means in a professional manner.
