Purpose Statement 

This position maintains television and radio transmitters, satellite, microwave and fiber optic system; provides technical advice and service to faculty, staff and students requiring a high degree of advanced skill and expertise in the operation and support of audio/video systems; media control systems and instructional technology; perform maintenance and operation of audiovisual equipment used in classrooms, conference rooms, theaters, atriums and other event spaces on and offsite including sound, video, projection and related equipment such as Crestron Control equipped presentation spaces, Videoconferencing Systems and Single Master Antenna TV Systems (SMATV); maintains and operates audio, video, broadcast and satellite equipment for television and radio. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed Associate’s degree with two years of experience performing similar duties to those described for this position OR four years of experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
  • Experience working in Higher Education.
  • Experience in daily TV and Radio Studio equipment.

Essential Functions 

  • Maintain and operate audio, video, STL, and transmitter equipment for KEPC/PPSC-TV.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment including computers, data projectors, control systems, network devices, hand tools, audio boards, and audio/video patch panels & routing systems.
  • Assist faculty, staff, students, and presenters for the use of technology in high-tech and smart classrooms o Includes rapid response to trouble and repair calls, logging and closing trouble or repair tickets, assisting in response to special requests and customer training.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and in good working order, conduct regular inventory checks, make recommendations about upgrading or purchasing new equipment.
  • Expedite major/minor repairs of all audio-visual equipment, ordering replacement parts for equipment repairs, sending out warranty, contracted repairs, or replacements.
  • Train student workers, faculty, and staff on how to set up, operate, and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment in classroom environments; demonstrate proper use of environments for faculty and other presenters.
  • Confer with and advise administrators, faculty, staff, students, and other personnel concerned with classroom technology information requests, services, and needs; work with managers, administrators, faculty, staff, and students on upgrades and enhancements, or new products, and resolve customer complaints/concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Duties

  • Assist with PPSC Radio and TV stations.
  • Maintains studio, transmitter and related equipment for KEPC and PPSC-TV.
  • Maintains and operates satellite communication equipment.
  • Designs video, audio, and control systems and circuits.
  • Installs equipment and systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of FCC rules, SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute).
  • Maintains maintenance logs and other required records.
  • Performs engineer-in-charge duties for broadcast productions.
  • Coordinates events, equipment installations and existing AV Technologies.
  • Provides technical leadership and support for the department in A/V systems and applications.
  • Reviews, assigns, answers, prioritizes, escalates, schedules and otherwise manages the A/V Services ITSS Request queue.
  • Provides escalated technical support to teammates, clients, and other ITSS teams.
  • Coordinates installations, troubleshooting, patching, fixes for A/V Services systems, devices, OS, software, peripherals, etc. for instructional and administrative A/V systems.
  • Assists all other ITSS teams in daily maintenance tasks.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in daily TV and Radio Studio/equipment operation.
  • Demonstrated experience with diagnostic techniques, procedures, equipment and tools used in digital classroom support and audio/visual services.
  • Prioritize work assignments and work on multiple tasks at once.
  • Perform advanced assembly of complex equipment and systems.
  • Follow detailed written and oral instructions; and effectively communicate, orally and in writing.
  • Troubleshoot a variety of instructional technology and audio-visual systems to isolate defects and make repairs.
  • Interpret advanced level of schematics and drawings.
  • Manage projects and meet demanding time conflicts.
  • Multi-task with a lot of interruptions.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Understand and work with IR, RS-422 and RS232C remote control systems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Move up to 50 pounds regularly up to one-third of the time.
  • Work on ladders, and in ceilings, as well as tall lifts/structures.
  • Work outside of business hours to support events; on-call to response to off-hour equipment problems as needed.
