Job Description:

Part-time instructor positions (as defined by State Board Policy, BP 3-10) exist to create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that empowers students to be successful. Part-time instructors work under the direction of their respective Department Chair, Associate Dean, or Division Dean. 

Pikes Peak State College maintains a pool of qualified part-time instructors. Part-time instructors will be selected to support departmental requirements. Part-time instructors may be employed to teach courses, conduct presentations or other service activities when current instructors and faculty are not available.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess and maintain certification relevant to courses:
    • CPR: AHA BLS Instructor
    • ACLS: AHA ACLS Instructor
    • PALS: AHA PALS Instructor
    • Completed a minimum of 4,000 verifiable hours related work experience obtained within the last five years. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assigned within the PPSC portal as the primary instructor.
  • Teaches credit course’s HPR, HWE and EMS courses related to Heartsaver, BLS, ACLS and PALS American Heart Association Disciplines.
  • Ensures AHA student- instructor-ratios policies and procedures are met as seen below:
  • HWE 1005 (Heartsaver) - 1 instructor to 8 students ratio
  • HPR 1011 (BLS) - 1 instructor to 6 students ratio
  • HPR 2011 (ACLS) - 1 instructor to 6 students ratio
  • HPR 2013 (PALS) - 1 instructor to 6 students ratio
  • Responsible for syllabus, grades, roster and attendance to be inputted into the PPSC portal, along with all scanned supporting course documentation, as required by the AHA.
  •  Responsible for grades, roster and attendance to be inputted into the Enrollware system, along with all scanned supporting course documentation, as required by the AHA.
  • Instructs students throughout the course, along with conducting skills testing check-offs.
  • Responsible for the course logistics and quality assurance.
  • Work with students to practice course-specific skills.
  • Provide quality customer service to faculty, staff, students, and others visiting the department.
  • Meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the college and the Department Chair’s approved course outline.
  • Using AHA approved teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
  • Informing students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction and grading.
  • Evaluating students on a continuing basis to allow them to be aware of their own progress.
  • Use of AHA latest instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and the library supportive reference materials.
  • Maintaining and submitting records as required by policy and procedures.
  • Promoting affirmative action equal opportunity concepts within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintaining required credentials, licenses, certification as appropriate, and proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel to multiple campuses to support department needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality while working effectively with all constituents.
  • Ability to navigate multiple on-line software including put not limited to the AHA instructor network, Enrollware and PPSC D2L shell.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and deliver appropriate curriculum.
  • Ability to employ qualitative and quantitative analytical skills in the classroom.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate written student records as required by policy and procedure.
  • Ability to inform students of all course requirements.
  • Evaluate students and offer feedback on a continuing basis.
  • Ability to relate to student concerns and maintain open communications.
