The Downtown Campus Engagement & Events Manager serves as the lead for event planning and management at the college’s downtown campus.  This position is integral to increasing the vitality of the Downtown Campus, requiring an individual who is highly organized, creative, detail oriented and motivated.  

This position handles a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • community building,
  • client relations,
  • event development and creation,
  • event coordination of logistics, timelines and tasks,
  • staff, client, and event attendee communication,
  • marketing and sales, and
  • vendor contracting,

The college is looking for a leader with a proven track record of success in event planning and someone who possesses a solid understanding of businesses, non-profit and educational institutions.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional, capable of building strong and positive relationships, and successfully anticipating project needs, discerning work priorities, meeting deadlines, and providing outstanding communication.

A member of the Downtown Campus team, this position will report directly to the Executive Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Ability to work during the day, evenings, and weekends as needed to support events and campus needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communication/public reactions, marketing, sales, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of related professional level experience including successful event management.
  • Experience with organizational financial processes and budgets.
  • Experience using event management tools, and customer relationship management software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for diverse populations.
  • Submit personal e-portfolio link reflecting work of events planned within the last three years.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in both academic and business environments.
  • Certified Meetings Professional certification.
  • Demonstrated successful record of collaboration.
  • Spanish language ability to read, write, and speak fluently.

Essential Functions   

Community Relations/Marketing

  • Create awareness and education about event spaces at the Pikes Peak State College Downtown Campus and Studio West
  • Expand customer/client base of DTC and Studio West
  • Drive growth and actively solicit new business and relationships that benefit DTC and Studio West
  • Identify, develop and nurture relationships within the community, especially with business, government and organizational leadership located in the Downtown corridor
  • Work with the PPSC Marketing Department to develop campaigns, materials, advertising
  • Become a visible member/participant in Colorado Springs business community, especially the Downtown business sector

Client Relations/Sales

  • Gather information about client objectives, budget and preferences
  • Provide advice about space amenities
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers
  • Manage event budgets

Event Management/Planning

  • Secure rooms and services
  • Create a schedule of events
  • Handle problems/challenges that arise during events
  • Ensure events comply with insurance, health and safety standards

Collaboration

  • Work effectively with College faculty, staff, and administrators in developing and maintaining collegial, trusting relationships for the efficient coordination of services with other college departments
  • Work closely and coordinate with PPSC staff and departments to include, but not limited to: Auxiliary Offices, Facilities, Information Technology, College Events Coordinator, Campus Safety, Downtown Campus faculty and staff
