The Department of Military and Veterans Programs (MVP) at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) provides guidance and coordination of student services and support for student veterans, dependents, and active-duty military personnel. Services include inquiries regarding degree and certificate programs, admissions processes, placement testing proctoring and/or exemption, advising, and enrollment.
 
Provides support with all student services functions excluding Accessibility Services and Federal Financial Aid at both Peterson Space Force and Fort Carson Army MVP offices located on both sites. Provides similar support services or referrals on the main campuses. Supports with obtaining Department of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits and ensures accurate processing of benefits. Ensures Banner coding is accurate to reflect military status and ensure correct tuition rates are applied. Represents PPSC for all marketing and recruiting events that have a military affiliation. Ensures PPSC remains in compliance with all regulatory requirements to remain eligible to accept VA and DOD educational benefits.
 
Reports to: Assistant Director of Military and Veterans Programs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited education institution, OR completed associate degree with three years of professional experience providing student support within a student services department at a college or university.
  • One year of full-time professional level experience providing student support within a student services department at a college or university.
  • One year of supervisory experience to include performance planning and evaluation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting software applications.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree from a regionally accredited educational institution.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience to include performance planning and evaluation.
  • Experience developing processes and procedures within a student services department at a college or university.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Experience working with active-duty military in an educational environment or assisting service members to obtain a college education/assisting service members to request Tuition Assistance (DOD Educational Benefits).
  • Experience working with instructional course schedule design.
  • Experience working with/managing Veterans Administration Work Study program.

Essential Functions 

Fort Carson MVP Support and Management:

Coordinates staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage is in place to provide outstanding customer service to walk-in, phone, or email inquiries of potential and current students in compliance with college and Education Center policies. Provides direct student support as needed to walk-in, call-in, or email contacts for all areas of Student Services excluding Accommodations and Financial Aid. Maintains
current knowledge of college policies, procedures, and degree/certificate programs.
 
Assigns work schedules, delegates, and prioritizes work assignments. Disciplines, and if necessary, terminates student and/or temporary hourly staff. Designs work methods for office personnel. Authorizes and signs leave requests, work hours, and overtime. Resolves conflict within office. Initiates/updates staff computer/technology account access through ITSS, VPES, and Enrollment Services requests. Recommends changes to staffing patterns based on workload. Initiates hiring process for vacant positions in coordination with Assistant Director/Director. Performs annual performance evaluation process for all direct reports. Ensures office staff are supplied with adequate facilities and equipment to perform duties.
 
Oversees the Joint Service Transcript evaluation process for active duty is completed in an accurate and timely manner per policy. Oversees the creation of both Evaluated Degree Plans for active duty, and MyCAA Education and Training Plans for spouses.
 
Learning Center Instructional Management
In collaboration with Assistant Director and Director, designs instructional course schedule for site using information acquired through data analysis and feedback/requests from Army Education Center staff. Works with FLAC Team to have courses built, canceled, and faculty assigned as designated by Instructional Department Chair. Initiates any instructor substitute or take pay contracts as needed.
Provides information and guidance for instructors teaching on site, to include any policy or procedure specific to the location. Ensures classrooms are assigned with appropriate technology for discipline and mode of instruction, and they are clean with working technology. Promotes on site instructional opportunities to students. Submits Visitor Access Pass requests for students or instructors per term.
 
Facilities Management and Security:
Ensures primary office suite is maintained in a professional manner. Hires, contracts, and schedules Night Monitor in collaboration with other on-post schools and Education Center staff, ensuring building security/lockup after evening classes are held. Tracks Night Monitor schedule to identify percentage of shared cost with other on-post schools and prepares quarterly invoices. Coordinates any facilities or IT
service requests as needed.
 
Supports Assistant Director:
As needed, or requested, provides support with Marketing and Recruiting Events such as Annual Education Fair, Unit Briefs, Education Center Activities, and attend meetings on their behalf.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality while working effectively with all constituents.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the assistant director/director.
