The Health Sciences Simulation Coordinator supports the administrative and educational oversight of the Interdisciplinary Simulation Center. This position serves as a resource for faculty in the operationalization of simulated learning activities for Health Sciences disciplines. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting faculty, cooperatively with the Simulation Team, in the development and execution of simulation that utilizes evidence-based methodologies. The Coordinator ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives and program outcomes as determined by CCCS and faculty, and current simulation best practices.

The Coordinator will demonstrate a strong commitment to the value of diversity among students and staff, as well as sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of PPSC students. The Coordinator works with colleagues to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed.

This is a 12-month, full-time position. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required to support student and department needs.

This position requires physical ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance.

Reports To: Director of Simulation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field, health related field, education, or curriculum from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Two years of clinical experience in Nursing/Allied Health with a valid license or certification in field of experience.
  • Two years of documented experience in the use of simulation in healthcare education, research, or administration (eligibility criteria for CHSE Certification).
  • Two years of teaching or training experience in a Nursing/Allied Health program, clinical education environment, or healthcare workforce training.
  • Ability to meet challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office or the ability to work with rapidly changing technologies.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master's degree in a healthcare field, health related field, education, or curriculum from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with DocuCare EHR.
  • Three or more years of clinical experience in Nursing/Allied Health with a valid license or certification in field of experience.
  • Two or more years of operational experience with simulation services, technologies, and applications.
  • Three or more years of teaching or training experience in a Nursing/Allied Health program, clinical education environment, or healthcare workforce training.
  • Current Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification or eligible to pass the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification within 12 months of hire as a condition of employment.

Essential Functions 

Administration Functions

  • Develop strategies to enhance programs and services, utilizing available resources to create a realistic learning environment.
  • Coordinate the collection of data for ongoing research or grant requirements to be sent to the Director of Simulation.
  • Work in cooperation with the Simulation Department to provide the leadership required to ensure that simulation meets standards of quality assurance for breadth and depth of education, and user expectations.
  • Promote the interests of the Interdisciplinary Simulation Center through participation in public relations events, development of new markets for simulation use, community outreaches, and serving on professional/civic service organizations and committee meetings.
  • Facilitate tours and orientations of Simulation Center as needed to promote programs.
  • Familiarity with PC platform with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation.
  • Communicate effectively with the Simulation Team, Health Sciences administration and faculty.
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
  • Provide input and support in preparation of capital and operating budgets for clinical learning activities conducted in the simulation center.

Education Functions

  • Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to a non-technical person.
  • Collaborate with the clinical coordinators, course lead faculty members, and the Simulation Team to develop and maintain a student rotation schedule for high-impact simulated-based learning.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate new scenarios and educational initiatives in collaboration with Health Sciences course faculty and content experts.
  • Incorporate best practice and evidence-based research in simulation scenario development with a focus on standardization and efficiencies across the healthcare continuum.
  • Collaborate with Health Sciences faculty to evaluate and validate existing simulation-based educational modalities, simulation development, and curricular integration consistent with trends in healthcare education and practice in support of the Simulation Accreditation Standards and the Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Provide a safe, supportive learning environment for students that promotes active learning, refinement of critical thinking/clinical judgment skills and reflective practice as an integral component of healthcare education.
  • Orient, train, and evaluate new simulation facilitators.
  • Orient, train, and evaluate new standardized patients (actors).
  • Maintain and analyze instructor and student simulation evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes.
  • Perform data analysis to evaluate learning and report findings to faculty, Director of Nursing, and Director of Simulation in a timely and meaningful manner.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, implementation, and integration of patient simulation technology into existing Health Sciences curricula in cooperation with Health Sciences faculty.
