The Associate Dean of Arts & Humanities assists the Executive Dean by providing leadership in and management of division operations. The Associate Dean represents the division to the broader instructional environment, while conveying the policies of the College and implementing those policies within the division. The Associate Dean shall maintain commitment to quality instruction, the primary objective of the institution.

The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree in the social sciences or arts field with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the discipline.
  • Three years of full-time or five years of part-time higher education teaching experience in the social sciences or arts.
  • Two years of successful administrative or leadership experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Ed.D. or a Ph.D. in the arts or social sciences.
  • Four or more years of full-time teaching higher education teaching experience in the arts or social sciences.
  • Three or more years of successful supervisory administrative or supervisory leadership experience in a two-year college environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and evaluate many full-time faculty and part-time instructors.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in position of increased duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with CTE instructional programs and practices, curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation.
  • Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability and resilience to embrace change in the ever-changing environment of higher education.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.

Essential FunctionsGeneral Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Manage and support faculty so they can successfully manage and support students.
  • Oversee supervision and leadership of all assigned faculty and departments.
  • Work with faculty who need improvement.
  • Evaluate faculty.
  • Make recommendations to the ED on the retention, dismissal, or probationary status of faculty and staff according to prescribed policies and procedures, as assigned.
  • Handle student concerns of full-time faculty.
  • Support Chairs with student concerns of part-time faculty.
  • Develop, implement, and assess a rigorous and relevant curriculum with department chairs, faculty and other stakeholders.
  • Actively encourage the use of emerging learning-centered processes by faculty members in division.
  • Supervise the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of appropriate regular and adjunct faculty (assist the Chairs) classified staff, APT and others within the division, as delegated by the ED.
  • Assist the ED with identifying new faculty or staff positions.
  • Scheduling: Assist the ED in the coordination and implementation of faculty teaching assignments and workload, as delegated.
  • Assist the ED and Chairs with college Assessment.
  • Oversee assessment processes.
  • Actively participate in committee work that promotes the goals of the division and the institution.
  • Actively participate in community activities and advisory boards.
  • Assist the ED, where appropriate, in building relationships with the division and community partners.
  • Assist the ED with the oversight of the development and management of the division budget, as assigned.
  • Assist the ED with the planning and management of the physical facilities assigned to the division.
  • Communicate department requests to the ED for room changes, scheduling requests, instructor changes, etc.
  • Coordinate with departments for updating fliers and websites; assist with marketing departments.
  • Work with Learning Commons, Advising & Testing, and eLearning as needed.
  • Attend periodic New Faculty Academy events.
  • Assure that Curriculum Committee forms and HLC program change request forms are completed.
  • Coordinate faculty representation at Curriculum Committee meeting when a department has an item on the agenda.
  • Coordinate CC, CETL, EP, and Senate membership for the division with faculty and ED.
  • Assist the Chairs with Program Review and completion.
  • Assist the ED and Chairs in planning for discipline specific program growth, particularly in areas where enrollment is low and programs are in danger.
  • Professionally develop faculty: work with them on teaching, self-advocating, etc. as needed.
  • Support the ED in Downtown Campus revitalization.
  • Assist the ED with Downtown Campus management.
  • Attend meetings upon request.
  • Serve as a community contact for your cluster of disciplines.
  • Provide weekly updates to ED.
  • Work on projects that contribute to AHSS or the DTC that you find engaging and meaningful.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Dean.
  • Able to divide time between the three main campuses and remote work.
