Salary: $48,000 - $51,000 annual gross

This position minimizes loss of revenue by counseling and advising students regarding their financial obligations to the College and working closely with students to assist them with resolving all account issues. This position is involved in the day-to-day implementation and enforcement of the college collection policies and procedures and is responsible for the collection of delinquent accounts due to PPSC for Student Receivables.

The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and department needs.

Reports To: Student Accounts Manager

Supervises: One full-time position

Minimum Qualifications

Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally credited institution OR completed Associate degree with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position OR four years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

Collection experience with a nonprofit, government agency or other entity.

Salary range is $48,000.00 to $51,000.00 annual gross.  For full consideration, all application materials must be received by 4:00 p.m. on February 14, 2024.  Applications accepted until position is filled.  

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.

Essential Functions  

  • Analyze, compare, and review delinquent accounts, post tax offsets to student accounts, and post payments made to the collection agency to student accounts.
  • Evaluate student accounts, overseeing all aspects of assisting students with past due balances, discuss A/R charges, payment plan options, possible funding options, appeal processes, etc.
  • Reconcile collection accounts, process bankruptcies, and deceased student paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare write-offs per college policy. Assist in Year-End Processes.
  • Process Student refunds.
  • Manages staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Oversees one Accounting Tech III by planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

General Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Cultural competence and demonstrated evidence, understanding, and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace.
  • Review and analyze each delinquent student account, turn over all delinquent accounts receivable activity to the Collection Agency, and send past due notices to students.
  • Responsible for contacting students with delinquent accounts in a friendly manner.
  • Analyze and respond timely to complex account problems and recommend needed course of action for resolution.
  • Serve as a liaison with departments, such as Financial Aid and Records & Registration, to facilitate collections on student outstanding debts.
  • Update and maintain department reports.
  • Reconcile monthly reports from collection agencies.
  • Communicate with collection agencies, provide proof of debt, and other documentation as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Serve as primary point of contact and resource for collections in Student Accounts.
  • Analyze, Review, Compare, and process student refunds.
  • Provide excellent customer service, phone, email, and in-person contacts.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures, including FERPA.
  • Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques.
  • Work independently in a team environment.
  • Strong Customer Service skills. Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills including the ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions in stressful situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality while working effectively with all constituents.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Detail oriented, high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
