Dental Clinic Assistant

Salary: $51,892 - $54,000 annual gross

This position provides support to the dental hygiene and dental assistant students in the dental clinic and simulation laboratory. Responsible for sterile instrument processing, monitoring equipment functioning and maintenance schedules, and inventory.

Anticipated start date October 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed associate degree from a regionally accredited institution with two years of professional level experience performing similar duties to those described for this position.
  • One year of professional level work experience in a dental or healthcare office.
  • Experience with dental office management software.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years related clinical work experience in a dental office.
  • Familiarity with Ascend Academic.
  • Familiarity with dental clinical equipment including intraoral cameras, digital intraoral and extraoral radiographic equipment, and CEREC scanners and mills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish.

Essential Functions 

  • Assist administrative staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Assist in the opening and/or closing of the Dental Center during assigned hours.
  • Maintain current knowledge of infection control, radiation safety, and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Perform scheduled equipment maintenance and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Restock supplies and patient use items.
  • Implement all clinical facility policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Effectively represent the Dental Center and the dental hygiene and dental assisting programs to patients, vendors, and the surrounding community.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint, etc.) and familiar with dental industry specific software.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Infection Control and Sterilization

  • Manage proper instrument processing.
  • Conduct weekly biological testing and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Collaborate with Dental Center Director to maintain infection prevention, instrument processing protocols and internal audits.
  • Maintain proper operation and maintenance of sterilizer and ultrasonic baths.
  • Implement infection control practices including environmental sanitation, safe waste management and disposal procedures. 

Equipment Maintenance, Repair, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain familiarity with the operation of dental equipment and, in collaboration with the Dental Center Director, IT, and the Facilities, monitors equipment functioning, assisting in scheduling maintenance and repair of clinical dental and computer equipment in the clinic and simulation lab.
  • Monitor oxygen and nitrous usage and communicate with Dental Center Director regarding replenishing needs.
  • Maintain equipment manuals updated.
  • Collaborate with the Dental Center Director to schedule compliance and regulatory inspections for nitrous/oxygen and radiation equipment.
  • Conduct quarterly in-house waterline testing and maintain documentation of results in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Collaborate with the program coordinator, schedules software updates if needed.
  • Ensure that each semester opens with all equipment functional and ready for use, including the dental units, sealant, air polishers, IO cameras, ultrasonic and piezo scaler units, and dental materials bins.
  • Recommend replacement or updating of equipment to Dental Center Director for budget considerations.

Inventory and Supplies

  • Collaborate with Dental Center Director and faculty to update directions for use of equipment. 
  • Maintain on-going inventory of supplies, program instruments, small equipment, forms, and patient recruitment materials.
  • Communicate with Dental Center Director regarding purchasing & inventory needs.
  • Organize equipment and stock supplies in the storage, sterilization room, mobile carts, clinic workstations, and other auxiliary areas, ensuring proper labeling.
  • Unpack deliveries of supplies, inventory, and put products away promptly.
  • Assist faculty in monitoring the check out and return of program instruments, small equipment, and supplies to students as needed.
  • Maintain updated material data safety sheets for clinic products.
  • Attend regular clinic operations meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Dental Center Director.
