Testing Support Specialist

The Testing Support Specialist provides students, staff, and faculty at Pikes Peak State College and community members in the Pikes Peak Region with support in delivering integrated testing services.  This position provides testing services to include proctoring and administering placement testing, testing for PPSC courses, standardized and industry certification testing, CLEP and DSST testing, GED and ESL testing, and other tests determined to meet students’ needs. Testing Support Specialists operate testing software, including online and computer-based testing, follow regulations and technical support, and ensure the academic integrity of testing.

Reports to: Coordinator of Testing 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution OR completed Associate's degree with two years of professional level experience administering a variety of testing or assessment programs, teaching, or providing professional level student support services.  
  • Experience working with community college students or university students. 

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge.  Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s Degree in education, counseling or psychology, student affairs, management, public administration, or closely related field.
  • Experience providing advising, career counseling, or other student services to community college or university students.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer software including web design software, internet browsers, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic file management.
  • Experience using Banner (INB and SSB) student record system.
  • One or more years of experience providing excellent customer service in an education or business setting.
  • Experience working with diverse and minoritized populations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Salary range is $43,506.00 to $44,485.00 annual gross.  For full consideration, all application materials must be received by 4:00 p.m. on February 14, 2024.  Applications accepted until position is filled.

Essential Functions 

Test Proctoring and Administration

Determines placement based upon documentation of academic preparation, following state and institution defined guidelines. Provides pre-test advising to students regarding the need to placement testing, including providing test preparation information. Process and input transcripts, ACT, SAT, and other placement measures into student’s records. Proctors placement tests, standardized tests, and PPSC course tests with knowledge of higher education testing procedures, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Testing. Maintains training and certification requirements to administer tests and ensure their integrity. Assists students with scheduling appointments for all testing services offered by the Testing Center. Sets up and maintains exam computers, including troubleshooting IT related issues.

Administrative Support

Assists and supports Advising & Testing operations to include intake of students, answering questions from students, staff, faculty, and community members with regard to departmental or instructional divisions to maintain compliance with institutional practices and procedures. Updates internal and external documents and marketing materials. Provides excellent customer service by answering phones, returning voicemails, and responding to emails in a timely manner.

Marketing, Outreach, and Accountability Projects

Represents department on college committees and task forces as assigned. Assists with special events, follow-up, and other service initiatives. Collaborates with internal and external partners to provide equity based, culturally competent, efficient, and fair services. Supports continuous assessment and improvement of processes affecting student enrollment and success metrics. Collects and reports testing data. Adheres to departmental tracking procedures.

  • Cultural competence and demonstrated evidence, understanding, and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between advising and testing for new and continuing students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community college mission, community college students, and diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of standardized (high-stakes) testing, college testing, placement, assessment and measurement programs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office products, web design, internet browser, online usage, and basic network configurations and operations.
  • Ability to prepare effective written communications, utilizing correct grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully, communicate, establish rapport and work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, and community members or organizations.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization and accurate recordkeeping with strict attention to detail and student privacy issues.
  • Works effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and outside personnel and agencies.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and report writing skills
  • Public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; and as an effective team member.
  • Must be able to work at all campus locations, all military sites, off-campus sites, and remotely as deemed necessary by the Director, Assistant Director, and Assistant Coordinator of Testing. Occasional evening and occasional Saturday hours will be required.
