The Lead Tutor position focuses on providing leadership and learner-centered support in the PPSC Tutoring Centers in order to improve students' confidence and success. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Tutoring Services the Lead Tutor guides students in developing independent learning skills while maintaining effective communication with the Coordinator of Tutoring Services and any Tutor 1s or Tutor 2s assigned to the Lead Tutor. The role requires maintaining accurate documentation of tutoring sessions and actively participating in tutor trainings and individual observations while also ensuring any direct reports are doing the same. Additionally, Lead Tutors will attend tutor trainings with the Coordinator and faculty, working to create a learner-centered, college mission focused culture which promotes the use of campus resources. Flexibility is expected, and adherence to Pikes Peak State College's and the Academic Resources’ division staff policies.

This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week.   

Essential Functions

  • Support Coordinator of Tutoring Services with supervising and leading tutoring staff and tutoring centers.
  • Conduct individual, group or drop-in in-person or remote tutoring sessions by appointment for assigned courses.
  • Provide tutoring with a learner-centered focus to increase students' confidence and success.
  • Communicate with tutoring supervisor to ensure effective tutoring methodologies while understanding and supporting the student/teacher relationship.
  • Maintain and ensure direct reports maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring sessions.
  • Guide students and ensure direct reports guide students on how to develop active and independent learning skills.
  • Adapt strategies for specific learning differences.
  • Attend and participate in regular one-on-one and group training sessions.
  • Under the direction of the Coordinator of Tutoring Services communicate with academic departments and supervisor to stay current on best practices in tutoring.
  • Work effectively in and actively promote a multicultural and diverse workplace.
  • Under the direction of the Coordinator of Tutoring services attend courses to market and promote services and/or to provide support in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Tutoring Services.
  • Adhere to student and staff policies as determined by Pikes Peak State College and the Academic Resources Division.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or currently enrolled junior level status at an educational institution.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Interest in professional development and being a life-long learner.
  • Successful Grades: Completed Grade of "A" or "B" in the subject/content being tutored or documented experience equivalent to a grade of "A" or "B" in the subject/content to be tutored.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Post Secondary teaching experience.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.
